So I went into Myer yesterday after work to ask for a sample when I happened to stumble upon the Chi Chi display of Christmas items. The first thing that jumped out at me was this palette. It's called the Chi Chi Glamorous Nudes Palette, and I believe it is new for this Christmas as I haven't been able to find any information on it online. They had this palette and two others, one with bronze shades and one with bright colours. There is something about the shades of this palette... Does it look familiar yet?
I could have sworn I've seen this palette before...
Oh shit it looks pretty similar to...
They say that imitation is the sincerely form of flattery so like myself, Chi Chi must be huge fans of Urban Decay. This palette contains twelve shades, 10 shimmer and 2 matte, and the colours are very close to that of the famed Naked Palette. After I heard about the MUA Undressed Palette in the UK I was wondering when Australia would get a dupe, and here it is!
So how do the shades stack up? Of course I have swatches for you!
Urban Decay swatches are the left shades, Chi Chi on the right.
The Chi Chi colours do not have names so I have just called them Shade 1 - 12.
Virgin is slightly more beige toned than Shade 1. Shade 1 is more of an off-white.
Sin is again more beige toned than Shade 2. Shade 2 is more pink leaning.
Naked swatches slightly more sheer than Shade 3. Shade 3 is ever so slightly more cool toned.
Sidecar is more metallic than Shade 4. Shade 4 is more brown and does not contain glitter.
So the first four shades are pretty darn close so far!
Buck is more pigmented than Shade 5. Shade 5 is slighly more cool toned.
Half Baked is more of a yellow gold than Shade 6. Shade 6 is more of an orange based gold.
Smog is is a cool toned shimmering brown. Shade 7 is a medium toned copper.
Dark Horse is a rich chocolate brown. Shade 8 is less pigmented and lighter in colour.
The middle four shades steer a little off course in tone.
Toasted is more pink toned than Shade 9. Shade 9 is slightly more brown in tone.
Hustle is less metallic than Shade 10. Shade 10 is more pigmented and metallic.
Creep is more matte than Shade 11 with tiny glitter particles. Shade 11 has a slight metallic sheen.
Gunmetal is more blue based than Shade 12. Shade 12 is more grey and slightly less pigmented.
The last four shades are once again pretty darn close.
I think it's safe to say that we have a dupe!
However there are some other factors I would like to mention.
The Naked Palette contains 15.6 grams of eye shadow and is made in the USA. It is not tested on animals. It comes with a full sized eye shadow brush that I personally think is excellent quality. It also comes with a sample size (3.7ml) eye shadow primer. It is packaged in a lovely velvet case with a small mirror at the top.
The Glamorous Nudes Palette contains 16 grams of eye shadow and is made in China. It states that it is only tested on family and friends. It also comes with 2 double ended foam applicators. It comes in a hard plastic case with a clear lid that closes very securely.
Here is a quick look I created with the Glamorous Nudes Palette!
Shade 1 on the browbone, Shade 2 on the inner corner, Shade 4 on the lid and shade 10 in the crease.
Please excuse this picture haha, but you get the idea.
One of the thing that strikes me about this palette is that the shades are so beautifully pigmented, at the same level of colour payoff as the Urban Decay shadows. They are not quite as buttery and dense feeling as the Urban Decay shadows in texture however they are very soft and easily blended.
But the final verdict is, which once would I recommend? Before I was as into makeup as I am now I found it hard to spend $55 on an eye shadow palette. In fact I asked for the Naked Palette for Christmas last year. For this reason I think that this Chi Chi palette is an excellent option for anyone looking to add a great set of neutrals to their makeup collection. For the price, you really cannot go wrong with the quality and pigmentation of these shades. However if you are a true eye shadow junkie like myself you may want to go for the Naked Palette. I think the quality of Urban Decay cannot be underrated, the formula is just smooth, buttery and dream like.
The Chi Chi Glamorous Nudes Palette retails for $19.95 from Myer, however at time of writing this there is currently an offer of 25% off on Chi Chi, so I got it for $14.95.
The Urban Decay Naked Palette retails for approx. $55 from BeautyBay, with free shipping.
I really tried to make this post as comprehensive as possible but if you have ANY further questions I will do my best to answer them in the comments below!
Do you have the famed Naked Palette or any of it's dupes?
